Coronavirus shopping behaviours change

There is no doubt that the coronavirus health crisis has changed the way we live. This crisis has, in fact, made an impact in all aspects of our life and shopping is no different.

There are restrictions in most countries to go out or only go out if it is absolutely necessary. In these situations, needless to say, that there are hardly any people going to the shopping malls or retail stores.

This has given rise to online shopping. Many people are shifting to online sites for shopping the items they need.

As you can imagine, many are trying to avoid luxury items and sticking to buy items which are absolutely necessary. For men, these items are their shaving razor, shaving cream, aftershave, beard oil or balm. Then comes the deo, cologne, soap bars or shower gel and so on.

The coronavirus is impacting nearly a third of men’s decisions on how much they spend on products, versus only 25 percent of women who said the same. Further, 36 percent of men said it is affecting how much they are spending on services and experiences such as restaurant meals, entertainment and travel, versus only 28 percent of women.

While both men and women (about 30 percent) say they are shopping less frequently in-store, more men are shopping more frequently online. Twenty-four percent of men versus 18 percent of women reported increasing their frequency of online shopping.

We have also covered previously in some of our blogs that even though it is believed that women are the power shoppers but soon men are emerging as power shoppers in many sectors. There are myriad of men who believe it is more pragmatic to buy online rather than spending time in actually driving to the shops, browsing long isles and battling with crowds to secure the item you wish to buy.

Another advantage of buying online, as many men believe, is that you can do better research of a product online while retail shopping in the store can lead to impulse buying. Men are usually more inclined towards doing the research for things before they buy them. Since online stores usually has a lot of information on the product page, you can take your own time to read them properly, or even do an online search before you buy them.
