James Dean Haircut.
This article really came about from me watching the movie ‘Rebel Without a Cause’ coupled with these rather interesting photos below which had a canny resemblance to James Dean and the early style period of the 1950’s. James Dean and the characters he played in movies for many young people growing up in the early 1950’s represented there own issue’s and battle’s with society and the expectation of their parents to be like them.
This was the period when new style forms were being created and bringing a new meaning to what was the right and wrong way to behave in society.
A James Dean haircut is very much about creating that free flowing textured quiff at the front which looks natural and wavy. This chap in the next three photos provides a ambiance and look which portrays this excellently. You will need to have medium length thick hair on the top to get this hairstyle with a 2:1 hair length ratio from side to top. I would suggest using American Crew Hair Styling Pomade and a sculpting hair brush to comb back the hair once the styling aid is drying.
I would towel dry your hair, apply the styling aid, then push it back from your for head with the brush. Then I would blow dry your hair while brushing your hair back to form the quiff.
James Dean hair would often take on a few different styles, depending on how short he had it it meant how long the quiff would be.
James Dean hairstyle really looks good with glasses as well and looks timeless. James Dean often wore stylized round specs in photo shoots.
Finally the picture below shows the legend himself – James Dean. Sadly he passed away from a car accident in 1955 at the young age of 24. In his short acting career he produced some stellar performances in such movies as Giant, Rebel Without a Cause and East of Eden for which he won a posthumous Golden Globe Award for Best Dramatic Actor. He was also the first actor to receive a posthumous Academy Award nomination for Best Actor in a leading role for East of Eden and he was again nominated for a posthumous Best Actor Academy Award for the movie Giant. He is regarded as one of the all time greatest American actors which is very impressive considering he had a short career in acting.
